Ingredients

Dough

  • 200ml lukewarm milk 🥛
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 1 egg 🥚
  • 8g vanilla sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 🍬
  • A pinch of salt
  • 300–350g all-purpose flour
  • 30–50g melted butter

Filling & Topping

  • Hazelnut cream (Nutella or homemade)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, mix lukewarm milk with the yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare the dough: Beat the egg with vanilla sugar and salt. Add in the yeast mixture and melted butter. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft, elastic dough forms.
  3. First rise: Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape: Roll out the dough to about 1cm thickness. Cut into rounds using a cutter or glass. Let rest for another 20–30 minutes covered.
  5. Fry: Heat oil to 170–175°C (340°F). Fry donuts until golden brown on both sides, about 1–2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Fill: Once slightly cooled, fill each donut with hazelnut cream using a piping bag. Alternatively, slice them and spread the cream inside.
  7. Dust & serve: Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve fresh. Best enjoyed warm!
